Maria Paula González is Coordinator of the Alternatives to Development program at Ambiente y Sociedad (AAS), a Colombian NGO that advances environmental protection through a human rights lense. AAS also tracks Chinese Investments in Latin America. González represents the organization at the Colombian Round Table on Business and Human Rights. Previously, she worked at the National Environmental Licensing Authority on permitting and sustainability, and at the Superintendence of Public Utilities where she coordinated circular economy initiatives. She has been a senior researcher on climate justice, and practiced law for several years. González holds an LL.M. in Environmental Law from Vermont Law and Graduate School, specialized in Mining and Oil Law from Universidad Externado de Colombia, and earned a law degree from Universidad del Rosario where she currently also teaches.
